While solo piano music is generally conservative, it exudes personality, largely influenced by Middle Eastern modal elements.
The first nocturne was composed in 1992, followed by the second 20 years later, marking the moment when the composer began to envision a series of nocturnes that is still ongoing. The poetic and lyrical essence of the music is expressed freely, entirely disregarding the constraints of ‘historical necessity’ imposed by the austere circles of so-called ‘contemporary’ music, with their prohibitions and directives.
The music feels as though it comes from another era, yet it remains deeply personal and independent of time.
